My child's tastes change rapidly, so I actually brought this toy to work with me after it sat in the box for a couple of weeks.

It worked out, because I am a speech-language pathologist, and I like bringing new toys and games into therapy sessions to keep things fresh and fun.

We (my patients and I) used the Wood Golem figure in a variety of ways.

The patient who enjoyed it the most is a 10 year old boy who was very excited to see this toy, and stated he would be trying to create one in the game when he got home.

The Wood Golem was used in between therapy exercises, as a motivator and reinforcer. 1) Used the Golem as a 'dart' with a target, and 2) used in a contest to see who could shoot the arrow furthest, and 3) in imaginative play with a sand toy. My patient enjoyed using the arrow the Golem shoots as a way to launch a 'trap' he created with the sand, for instance.

In another activity, we used the arrow the Golem shoots as a way of selecting therapy targets- words or concepts to practice were written on wooden blocks, and the block my patient hit with the arrow was selected as the word to practice or concept to discuss.

Even my son later requested I bring it back for him to try using in similar ways when I described the games we played with it.

It is overall well constructed, though some children had a difficult time launching the arrow, which must be launched by pushing on the top of the figure. For children with some motor difficulty, it may be easier if the button…
